Actress Eva Longoria received a Master’s Degree in Chicano Studies from California State University yesterday during a cap and gown ceremony attended by family and friends.
The former ‘Desperate Housewives’ star hit Twitter to share her excitement with her 6 million followers, “Big day today!!! Very excited to graduate and receive my Master’s degree in Chicano Studies! You’re never too old or too busy to continue your education.”
She posed for family photos with her parents Enrique Longoria and Elle Eva Mireles. Also on hand to witness the cap and gown event were her Tia Lupita and cousins Marcella and Sonya.
According to the university website, “Chicano Studies is a field that advances a critical understanding of the Chicana/o and Latina/o experience in the United States. Courses reflect a multidisciplinary approach to the understanding of histories, politics, culture, language and education.”
Her thesis was titled: “Success STEMS From Diversity: The Value of Latinas in STEM Careers.” In case you were wondering … STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields.
Clearly more than just a pretty face, Longoria also holds an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from Texas A&M. It is the study of the mechanics of body movements.
During her time at Texas A&M, she won the title of Miss Corpus Christi, USA in 1998. After completing college, Longoria entered a talent contest that led her to Los Angeles–where she was spotted and signed by a theatrical agent.
