Phillip Edward Fulmer Sr. is a former American football player, coach, and principal of the University of Tennessee. He was the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteer Football Team from 1992-2008, setting a record 152–52. He is best known for coaching volunteers in the first game of the BCS National Championship in 1998, beating the Florida State Seminoles. Fulmer is the head coach of the 20th Volunteer Soccer Team. At the end of his tenure in Tennessee, Fulmer had the second-most head coach wins in Tennessee history, just 21 games behind Robert Neyland. Fulmer is also the third coach in Tennessee history to win a national championship title. His 1997 and 1998 teams won the SEC championship in a row. Despite his decline in the final years of his career, he is still considered a football icon of Tennessee, known for his loyalty to the organization. In recognition of his accomplishments at Tennessee, Fulmer was inducted into the College Football Fame Hall in 2012
